Baseball is back, and more football to watch…(not that football)

I’m really glad another baseball season is back in full swing.  Now the Astros maybe behind the eight ball a bit, I think they’ll do a lot better than all the media pre-season rankings.  Most have them have them at 3rd at best; some losing as many as 67 games. I think they’ll be about 87-90 wins, and that might get them into the wild card.  If they manage to stay healthy they may be able to pull it off, and make a run at the division.

Nice win tonight by the way.  So far our pitching has been strong, I’m not worried about Roy after last nights performance, and it’s nice to see Wandy pitching really well out of the gate.  Keppinger a late spring signing, after Aaron Boone had to have heart surgery, knocked in the game winning, walk off broken bat single for the 3-2 win in the 10th inning.  Baseball is all about a short memory so we’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Speaking of tomorrow Liverpool FC plays Chelsea in the championship league quarterfinals.  I’m sure most people in the states don’t follow European football, but for the past 10 years or so I’ve been following as close as I can from abroad.  Fox soccer channel does a great job; I know I watch it a lot more than ESPN these days.   I’ve latched on to Liverpool, mostly b/c Steven Gerrard has been my favorite player since I’ve gotten into the EPL.    The UEFA Championship League games are really exciting, there’s some much talent on the pitch…here is how wiki breaks down the tournament.

Luckily for me ESPN360.com has all the championship games live, so I can stream them at work.  So from 1:45 – 3:45pm tomorrow I’m in a meeting.   ;)

Past Weekend & Rangers Opening Day

This past weekend was really nice one spent in the Brazos Valley.  We went down to College Station, for Brent’s wedding at a nice bed and breakfast in Navasota.  The name of the B&B was Bogart’s.  The wedding started @ 3pm, the reception wasn’t until 6pm.  At first we thought what are we going to do for 2 1/2 hours, but the bar opened up and some appetizers were served so we just hung out and caught up with Houston friends in the nice back yard of Bogart’s.  Dinner was fine I opted for the steak, I had one bite of the groom’s cake, some sort of Oreo tasting, not sure it was Oreo, but that’s what it tasted like.  We left about 10:30, I dropped off Dixie @ Matt and Chris’s house where were staying and headed over the Patrick’s apartment, where for the 3rd weekend played Rock Band until about 3am.

This morning we got up took my youngest brother Patrick to eat @ Ozona’s in C station, not really that good.  The Ice tea was good, and drinking is really the only reason I have gone to Ozona’s in the past in Dallas and it will stay that way.  After lunch we headed back to Dallas and got in around 6:30pm.

Tomorrow I have the day off.  Due to some economic short comings our company has required all “Exempt” employees to take 2 unpaid days off a month.  So I’m taking off tomorrow b/c it’s opening day for the Texas Rangers.  While I’m not much of a Rangers fan, I am a huge baseball fan.  Opening day is one of greatest days of the year for a baseball fan.  There are so many traditions that the great game of baseball and opening day bottles almost all of them up.  This will be the 3rd Rangers opening day for me.  I’ve never made it to see my team the Houston Astros opening day, but I will sometime.  The excitement that surrounds an opening day game is almost like a playoff game atmosphere.  The game is @ 1pm so we’ll head out there pretty early and tailgate  I think we’ll try and be out there by about 10:30…play some “Bags”, have a few cold ones, though I think it’s only going to get up to the lower 60′s tomorrow so may a warm one is in order.  I think George W. it throwing out the first pitch, so I think I’ll try to make it to the seats by then.   GO ASTROS!!!!
